In a tavern, in the human plane, 5 people exist. Two of them are staff, working hard because the other 3 people must be really hungry. At the table, a goblin, elf and a human sit. They sit in silence, they are not friends, but only people that have to work together. It's actually right to say that they all hate each other. The goblin tries to talk. "Hey... guys! What are your names?" The human and the elf look at her like she's some sort of beast, because she is. The human mutters "Jacob." The elf also mutters "Narbeth of Octovys". The goblin is surprised, "Octovys! You mean the spider god? How can you agree with someone who has killed millions for its own self gain?!" Narbeth shakes his head, "I was once a drow, I was a cleaner. I found little spiders who had escaped the egg nest and I put them back." The goblin feels better "Oh, so you never killed anyone?" The elf stays silent, a look of discomfort across his face. Then he speaks, "Yes, I killed many but I have been blessed, and I understand that what I did was wrong." The goblin feels embarrassed. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to bring up anything!" Narbeth sighs and looks downwards
After a while, Jacob speaks, trying to make the table a little less awkward "I was a royal knight, until I slayed a man who I thought was an imp in disguise. I was banished to the void for 3 years. In that time, I trained my skills against the hordes of shadows who lurked there." The goblin says "Well, since you guys have told your story I will tell you mine! I am Scrap and I lived in the dark and grimy sewer in which I was found b..." Jacob interrupts "SHUT UP! We don't care Scrap or whatever your name was, we just need to get this job done!" Scrap sinks into her chair as Jacob yells at her.
Soon after, the food is ready. The waitress holds two massive trays filled to the brim with food and drink. 3 Beers, a whole salmon, steak, a roast chicken, spiders on a stick (which when Narbeth sees it, he smiles), a leg of ham, a few bottles of wine and some salads. The waitress pants "That will... be 37... silver and... 120 copper." Jacob quickly objects "Well since we are working for the mayor, we get it for free!" he smiles unlike any of them had seen before. "Well since the... you know, mayor is dead, that doesn't make much sense" "Don't you know? The Mayor's Son is the temporary mayor!" The waitress smiles but then mumbles to herself when she leaves "That was the biggest meal we ever had!"
"Oh yeah, we are meant to be finding out who killed the mayor!" Scrap realizes.
After a large meal, Scrap, Jacob, and Narbeth walk into the mayor's room. In the room, a vintage carpet is stained with red blood and dirt in the shape of large foot prints. On a table, a chest seems to be looted, only holding a few copper within it. The mayor's body has a large bite mark in it. Scrap tries to taste the dirt. "Hmmm... must have been a troll." Scrap says. Jacob looks angry "How did you get that from a single taste?! Are you just making an excuse to be disgusting. Of course that's what a goblin would do!" "I could tell by the woody taste! I learned that when I was trained by a troll. They use wood to clean, so they have a woody scent, and so would their trail!" Scrap yells, trying to defend herself. "That just, doesn't make, any sense. Ok then! Let's just trust this useless goblin! Of course she would know!" Scrap starts to pull her dagger until they hear a scream. The mayor's son's voice! The adventurers quickly run out to see a large feral goblin attacking the mayor's son!
Scrap goes behind him and strikes him! He roars and turns to attack Scrap. But before he can attack, Jacob slashes with his battle axe! A large chunk of his side falls off, and he limps to attack Jacob. He bites down on his arm. Jacob starts bleeding out, and starts to breathe heavily and signals to Narbeth to shoot an arrow. Jacob inhales. Narbeth shoots an arrow which sticks into the feral goblin's side. Jacob exhales. Scrap throws a few of her knives, lodging them into the feral one's leg as he falls to the ground. Jacob inhales. They both finish him off. Jacob exhales.
Jacob stands up after calming himself down. He basically instantly yells and gets angry "Of course a goblin attacks! I don't even think I can trust you Scrap!" Scrap bottles the pressure as she doesn't want to get angry again. But then Narbeth joins in "Goblins were creations of pure evil and chaos! They should be killed!" Scrap can't handle two people attacking her, so she pops. "THAT WAS A FERAL GOBLIN! YOU TWO JUST WANT TO SEE THE WORST IN PEOPLE. GOBLINS WERE MADE TO INVENT, BE CREATIVE, BUT OTHER GODS TWISTED THEM INTO EVIL BEASTS. BUT THAT ISN'T ME! YES, I MAY BE GROSS AND UNCIVILIZED BUT I TRY TO BE BETTER! PLEASE, UNDERSTAND AND STOP TALKING ABOUT GOBLINS LIKE THEY ARE AN OGRE!"
"Calm down!" Jacob snaps, "I don't think you're an ogre, but you do act like one, now, let's collect our reward" Jacob and Narbeth chuckle and walk to the mayor's son.
The Mayor's son thanks the adventurers, but asks them to do another quest. "I need you to go to the top of copper mountain and crush a baby dragon egg, only one, that lies on the tip of the mountain! I need all of you guys to do this, we need a warrior, ranger and rogue." Jacob replies quickly "I can't do that, this goblin is so annoying." "Me neither!" Narbeth agrees. "But we need you to do this, think about it, 'A group of rookie adventurers kill a dragon!'" "Are you calling us rookies?" Jacob asks. "Nnnoooo? Anyways, you have to, I will pay you 10 gold!" Then, practically in unison, Jacob and Narbeth say yes.
As they climb copper mountain, they see as the trees start to become more infrequent and snow covers everything and is 3 inches deep. Scrap shivers and tries to mutter about a coat, but neither of them seem to notice. As they climb, Jacob asks Narbeth about his drow past. "So, were you like a good drow?" Narbeth looks at him like he had 16,777,216 eyes. "No, I was always watched with one of Octovys' eyes, and I couldn't even mention another god, a predator of a spider, or the number 7 or 9 for some reason. I must have killed at least 200 beasts for her. I feel so good now that I have left her gaze." Jacob's eyes light up as his mind races with questions, but only one comes out. "How many eyes does she have?" Narbeth looks at him again with that 'look' "8 sets of 8 sets of 8 sets of 8 sets of 8 sets of 8 sets of 8 sets of 8 eyes each, so only a limited amount of drows could ever exist, so we would never go to war, cause we could never have a large enough army." As they climb to the top of the mountain they see the egg.
Scrap quickly goes to crush the egg, but instead of an egg, 5 differently coloured ones. A red egg has painted patterns of fire. It shows the lost city of Guu!gar burning and covered with layers of ash. A green egg shows patterns of acid. It shows a quarter dragon poisoning the king of the kingdom of Hju!gin. A blue egg has patterns of lightning and thunder. It shows the great storm of the plane crash and the dragons who caused it. The other two eggs are cracked and have nothing to show that they contained a dragon inside.
"What do we do, crack them all?" Jacob asks. "I don't think we have to, they are cracking themselves..." Scrap whispers
As the eggs crack, three large dragon babies crawl out. One, ash covers its face, another has a thick green liquid dripping from its teeth, and the final has a slight zapping sound as it opens its mouth. Jacob yells out to Narbeth, "Go back! They suck at long range combat." The fire dragon starts to form a large fire ball in his mouth as Jacob and Scrap hide behind their shields. A large ball of fire hits Jacob's shield as the wood and metal start to burn. Narbeth shoots a long range shot at the Lightning one as Scrap goes behind the Acid one. But Scrap went too late, as the green one sinks its teeth into Scrap and injects venom into her blood stream
Scrap tries to attack, but she feels too weak. She crawls backwards, trying to get out of the action. She scrambles through her bag looking for an antidote or something to stop the bleeding. She finds a towel, and she wraps it around her arm. She tries to help the others, but she can't even stand up. She can see the others fighting. A battle axe slices through the fire one's neck and an arrow strikes the acid one's heart. But the lightning lifts into the air, readying for a lightning breath attack. Scrap tries to throw a knife to knock the lightning one off balance, but she misses. She can barely move now, her legs start to become stiff and lifeless. But as her life starts to fade, Narbeth pulls out an antidote and shoves it down Scrap's throat. "Are you good?" Narbeth asks as the lightning falls to Jacob's Longsword. "Ya... I'm alive, why did you help me?" "I wouldn't just leave you to die Scrap. We may be enemies in race, but I would never allow an ally of mine die when I could have saved them."
As Narbeth helps Scrap recuperate, Jacob looks through the dragons' corpses to see if there was anything worth at least a gold. "Narbeth, do you know how much a fire and lightning gland are worth?" Jacob asked. "Not exactly, but I think they are around 5-20 gold each." "Nice, that could get us a property." "I wouldn't want to live with you" Narbeth says.
As they trek back down to Goldvile, The Mayor's Son thanks them for getting rid of the dragon threat. Each of them is paid 3 Gold 33 Silver and 33 Copper. "Where did the other copper go?" Jacob asks. "Well, I just gave it out equally, I can give you the other copper if you want." "No, it's fine" Scrap looks confused. "Then why did you even ask?" "Don't know"
The Mayor's Son asks "So, I have 1 last job for all of you. Can you guys go to The Iron Fang guild in Gambeer and give them this, they will train you each to hone in your skills." Scrap looks eager and quickly responds, "Of course we will!"
As Scrap, Jacob, and Narbeth approach Gambeer, more and more people start to appear. Random travelers, merchants, and knights used this path often to trade and go on adventures! But this path was long. Safe, but long. It had been around 7 days of travel and they had only gotten halfway through. On the way, a peddler came and tried to sell his wares. "Hey! Do you want my items? I know adventurers like you want NEW ITEMS?!" Scrap tries to dismiss them but he won't stop talking. "I have snake venom! 1 coat and 1 stab can kill an elder dragon! I also have a magic spear of Na!rgt, and it can..." "Shut up!" Jacob yelled, "Stop, we won't buy anything! Nothing!" The peddler starts shaking, as he starts reforming "You... shall... pay!"
His new body has thousands of scales. His teeth grow long as he loses his legs and forms a tail. As he turns into a Fuanpi (a type of snakeperson from the desertlands (Fuan) who can switch from a human to a massive snakeperson when they have a strong emotional reaction), the adventurers back away. Jacob grabs the spear and just by touching it, he can tell it's just normal and not magic. As the peddler finally turns into a Fuanpi, he lunges forward and tries to take a bite out of Narbeth. He screams out for help from either of them to help. As Jacob slowly wears down the beast, Scrap goes and heals Narbeth with some hand-made bandages. "Thank you, Scrap, you are really resourceful!" "Yeah, I learnt from around."
After a while of attacking the snakeperson, he falls and the adventurers get back on the trail. After another week, they had finally made it into Gambeer. As they entered, the strong scent of fish and beer came out from the center down to the front gates. Thousands of people, possibly millions, roam the complex streets everyday. In every little corner, a shop. A candle shop, a bait shop, a card shop, an axe shop, and so many more. But after asking around and going through weird pathways, they were in the Iron Fang
